Thirteen year old Julija and her mother, flee their abusive household to find refuge at a idyllic island off the coast of Dubrovnik where Julija grew up. Emotionally scarred, Julija is desperate to reconnect with the only person she thinks loves her, her childhood friend, Ana. But Ana is infatuated with her first boyfriend, Pjero, a new-comer to the island, and has no time to address her childhood friend’s pain. Julija is faced with a changed world, that has left her behind; its sunlit perfection accentuates her loneliness and pain. Desperate to win back Ana’s love, Julija finds herself trapped by her own insecurity, acts out and alienates herself further until Ana’s mounting rejection ignites Julija’s wounds and violent family history — with devastating consequences.
